Toronto’s Sun Valley Market in Birchmount Park to Close Permanently

[Sing Tao Comprehensive Report]The Sun Valley Market (Sun Valley Market) in Toronto’s Birchmount Park will permanently close at the end of July.

The grocery store at the corner of Danforth Avenue and Birchmount Road, which first opened in 1986, will close on July 29. The original Sun Valley store was a small mom-and-pop store that opened in 1978, followed by a Danforth location in 1983 that closed in 2010.

Jim Bexis, a partner at Sun Valley Market, said Sun Valley Market has supported the community over the years, and the community loves the market as much. Jim Bexis and his brother-in-law Peter Vacirtzoglou took over the business from their father-in-law for nearly 20 years, having been with the business from the Birchmount factory and also working as delivery drivers.

The pair had originally hoped to sell the grocery store, but no one was willing to buy it. The two said that not many people have the willingness to buy, they need to take care of it every day, and the profits are getting lower and lower. Finally, after the big family purchased the land, it was used to develop a 12-storey apartment building.
