At least five people have been killed by a tornado in the US state of Missouri. An unknown number of people were injured. Rescuers are searching for victims among the rubble of destroyed buildings.
The victims fell in southeastern Missouri. According to local authorities, the destruction is mainly in rural areas.
Severe hailstorms caused extensive damage in the states of Iowa and Illinois. The storm continues and major cities such as Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis are also at risk of being affected.
Earlier this week, 32 people were killed in the US by severe storms and tornadoes. A week earlier, 26 people were killed and hundreds of homes were destroyed in Rolling Fork in the Mississippi Delta.
