Tornado hits Kentucky, kills 50 people

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Tornado hit five states in United States of America killing at least 50 people on Friday (10/12) US time. Especially in Kentucky, the roof of a factory collapsed and caused many casualties.

In addition to the factory, the Graves County Courthouse and adjoining prison were also affected by the tornado.

“There is one factory in Mayfield whose roof has collapsed causing mass casualties,” said Governor Andy Beshear CNN, Saturday (11/12) morning local time.

Besides Kentucky, the four states that were hit by the tornado were Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee.

According to Andy, the tornado also hit almost the entire city of Mayfield and was centered in Graves County. As a result, residents have difficulty getting clean water, so they have to send two trailers filled with water.

The situation, Andy said, prompted the state to declare a state of emergency and deploy the National Guard.

Not only that, a tornado also destroyed a nursing home in Monette, Arkansas which also claimed lives and injuries.

“At least one person died in Monette after a tornado damaged a nursing home. The storm also trapped many people before being rescued. At least 20 people were injured at the facility,” Mayor Bob Blankenship told reporters. CNN.

Meanwhile in Illinois, an Amazon warehouse northeast of St. Louis is broken. A resident revealed that a family member and employee were trapped in the building.

“It’s very sad to see the amount of damage there and to know someone was inside when it happened,” Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback told KMOV Saturday morning.

Until now, the police have not been able to determine the number of victims who died and people who are still trapped in the building due to the tornado.
