The phenomenon has softened, leaving several areas with severe thunderstorm warning, from Algonquin to Peel. Residents of this area are urged to “pay close attention to potentially dangerous weather conditions and take appropriate safety measures,” according to a warning from the federal agency.

Several netizens shared photos and videos of damaged roofs, torn up fronts of houses and crashed cars on social media. The trees could not withstand the strong winds either.

Premier Doug Ford shared his thoughts on the situation on Twitter, taking the time to thank the first responders for their work on the ground.

“My thoughts are with everyone in Barrie and Innisfil who have been affected by today’s inclement weather. Many thanks to our first responders who are currently on the ground to help with the situation. Please stay safe everyone! ”

A cold front is at the origin of the phenomenon, according to Environment Canada. This stormy area is moving towards Quebec, where droplets could start to fall in the evening.
