Their concerts at the festival are part of their spring world tours
Before opening the sixth edition of the “Jazz+ 2010” festival on May 15 in the “Bulgaria” hall, the Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen’s quartet presented the musician’s new project “Restored, Returned”, recorded for the ECM label in nine cities in Norway in March, subsequently in sixteen in Germany and continued with New York and San Francisco in April. Radically sincere in his performance, Tord Gustavsen will take us into the world of his beautiful music with his new quartet – Tore Brunborg – saxophone, Mats Eilertsen – bass and Jarle Vespestad – drums.

Legendary guitarist Mike Stern’s first-class quartet, in which each musician is a soloist and a star, will perform in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Slovakia before taking to the stage in Hall 1 of the NDK on May 17 .
The musicians in Stern’s group are world-famous and long-awaited names on the Bulgarian scene. In the project, a special guest musician is bassist and vocalist Richard Bona, whose five solo albums reveal before us a musician with a characteristic handwriting and sound. Saxophonist Bob Malach has worked with names such as Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Miles Davis and Horace Silver, and his dynamic style successfully combines funky vibe with subtle harmonic challenge, and drummer Dave Weckle hardly needs an introduction. Named one of the 25 greatest drummers of all time, he has numerous albums and prestigious awards, his dynamic and vital playing style sets him apart from the rest and makes him a crowd and critic favourite. He is simply Dave Weckle and today, looking back in time and thinking about things to come, he stands behind the idea of serving to inspire young people and ignite the spark of music in them: “My goal is to inspire young people to are involved in music, whether they will play the drums or another instrument. With all the negativity in the world today, I feel that this is my way of contributing to positive action that leads to spiritual happiness – and music has a significant part in that. So parents, if your child has musical talent, make sure to develop it!”

The sixth edition of the “Jazz +” festival will close with a concert by the eccentric pianist Nick Berch and his zen funk quintet “Ronin” at “Sofia Live Club” on May 19. The group will present their latest album “Holon”, recorded for ECM – a minimalistic approach with an impressive combination of funk and at first glance monotonous, but multi-layered Eastern echo. The musicians from “Ronin” will also play this program in Romania, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands in the month of May.
