59-year-old Tor Inge Dahl was knocked down around 100 meters from his care home in Karmøy on Saturday 12 August.

Dahl suffered major injuries, including a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage, and was flown to Haukeland University Hospital, according to his brother Martin Dahl. He has been in a coma for over a month after the incident.

A minor boy has been charged with grievous bodily harm following the incident.

On Monday 14 August, Tor Inge Dahl’s brother, Martin Dahl, said that his brother is mildly developmentally disabled, and lives in a care home with supervision:

– He does that a bit weakly. He is an easy victim for those who want to commit violence, Martin Dahl told VG then.

Now the family says that many people have asked how Tor Inge Dahl is doing, and that they are therefore choosing to provide an update. Haugesund’s newspaper mentioned the update first.

Nods and shakes his head

– He has been in Haugesund hospital for three weeks, and a week ago was moved to a rehabilitation center in Bergen, writes his brother Martin Dahl in an SMS to VG on Wednesday.

He says that Tor Inge Dahl is no longer in a coma, but in a “minimally conscious state”.

– This means that he is sporadically “awake”, and the duration is very variable, he writes.

This can be anything from a minute to an hour, according to the brother.

– Sometimes a blank look, while other times we get a little better contact with him. He does not move his body, but has nodded and shaken his head a little when asked. He has also nodded when we have been greeted by famous people, writes the brother.

Martin Dahl states that Tor Inge Dahl gets tired quickly.

“He has suffered brain damage(s), but to what extent it is too early to say anything about yet”.

– It is far too early to say anything about future forecasts, says the brother.
