Topping-Out Ceremony for New Modern Realschule with Sports Hall in Rath

Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller: “The junior high school on Borbecker Strasse is another successful project of the Düsseldorf school construction campaign. We are already creating a place for around 540 pupils in Rath to study in the most modern environment for the 2024/25 school year.”

A total of 18 classrooms will be created in the new building on three floors and around 7,900 square meters of space. The classes of the three-stream Realschule are arranged in clusters, the clusters have access to the schoolyard via a directly adjacent staircase.

In addition, the school will have extra-curricular areas for all-day and inclusion, specialist classes, an administration area, an auditorium, a break hall and a canteen. The double sports hall with adjoining caretaker’s apartment, changing rooms and equipment rooms will cover a total of around 1,800 square meters and will be built as an independent building with separate access for school and club use.

City director Burkhard Hintzsche: “The new secondary school expands the range of secondary schools in district 6 and, as the 14th secondary school in Düsseldorf and the first secondary school in district 6, provides for a significant relief.”

The flat roofs of the school are intensively greened. The roofs of the sports hall and the caretaker’s apartment will be provided with partly intensive and partly extensive green roofs.

The construction costs are around 50 million euros. The construction project is being implemented by Industrieterrains Düsseldorf-Reisholz AG (IDR AG).
