Top weekend expected on the coast, but NMBS is putting fewer trains…

It’s been a while but this weekend it will be high summer again. And they like to hear that on the coast. A crowd is expected. Unfortunately, that also means traffic jams. The train is an alternative. But let there be works now so that fewer trains than usual run to the coast.

Infrabel is laying a third and fourth track between Ghent and Bruges. For this purpose, work is being done on the overhead wires, the signaling system and the track. In addition, Infrabel is also carrying out the remaining architectural works in the same zone. At the same time, maintenance work is also being carried out and Infrabel is continuing to work on the further roll-out of the European safety system ETCS.

“Due to the works, no trains can run this weekend on railway line 50A between Ghent-Sint-Pieters and Bruges stations. As a result, fewer trains run to and from the coast than usual. In order to limit the nuisance as much as possible, NMBS is adjusting the train service and is also using replacement buses,” says Dimitri Temmerman of the NMBS.

Anyone who decides to take the train should be well prepared and will certainly have to be patient during rush hours.

These are the lines that are hindered:

•The IC trains between Genk and Blankenberge and between Eupen and Ostend are being diverted between Ghent and Bruges and are therefore on the road up to 20 minutes longer than usual.

•The IC trains between Antwerp-Central and Ostend do not run further than Gent-Sint-Pieters. If you want to go to Ostend from Antwerp, you have to transfer to another train in Gent-Sint-Pieters.

•The IC trains between Brussels Airport-Zaventem and Knokke run no further than Gent-Sint-Pieters. If you want to go to and from Knokke, you have to change in Bruges to a shuttle train that runs back and forth between Bruges and Knokke.

•There will be no trains this weekend to and from Zeebrugge-Strand station. NMBS is deploying replacement buses between Bruges and Zeebrugge-Strand.

• Replacement buses run between Gent-Sint-Pieters and Bruges. These buses stop in Drongen, Landegem, Hansbeke, Bellem, Aalter, Maria-Aalter, Beernem and Oostkamp.

During the weekends of 11 and 12 and 25 and 26 September and of 2 and 3 and 9 and 10 October Infrabel is also working on the track between Ghent and Bruges and there is an adapted train service.
