Top Tech Trends at Mobile World Congress: From Bendable Phones to Transparent Laptops

The Mobile World Congress was once the trade fair when it came to smartphones and new technology. There are now fewer and fewer major manufacturers at this fair, but there is still plenty to experience. Tweakers took to the trade fair floor last week to spot the coolest phones.

We are now familiar with foldable telephones. These devices are still not really common, but Motorola is already looking at the next step: a bendable phone. This model, which is still only a prototype, can be worn on your wrist or bent in many other ways. Will that catch on? That’s just the question. We don’t even know if Lenovo wants to release the model at all.

Xiaomi’s ultratelefoon

When you think of Xiaomi you may mainly think of cheap budget devices. Unjustified, says Donovan, who spotted the Xiaomi 14 Ultra at the MWC. That is the top model of the Chinese manufacturer, where the gigantic camera island is particularly striking. It also has to be large, because the 14 Ultra has a one-inch sensor and large lenses so you can take even better night photos. And with that add-on you can also transform the model into a compact camera.

Two headphone jacks for the real audiophile

Whether a smartphone still needs a 3.5mm jack in 2024 is still a matter of heated debate among tweakers. ZTE has the solution for the last of the Mohicans: the Nubia Music. It has two audio ports and a huge speaker at the back. But is it also a good device?

Transparent laptop

We have previously written about Lenovo’s ThinkBook with a transparent display, but during the MWC we were finally able to see the laptop in real life. Donovan got to work with this futuristic notebook to see if a translucent screen would look anything like it.

The long life of 3d

3D is dead, long live 3D! ZTE showed a tablet at the MWC that can display photos and videos as well as apps in three dimensions. Last year ZTE already showed a similar tablet, but it had to convert images in advance. This new device does that in real time.

Very cheap folding phone

Energizer is known for more than just batteries. The company showed a smartphone at the MWC. Not surprising in itself, because the company has been making smartphones for some time, but now the company is launching a foldable phone that is remarkably cheap.
