Top Subcompact Crossovers in Japan: Nissan Kicks, Mazda CX-3, and Toyota Yaris Cross

All the trio included in this rating were not previously officially sold on the Russian market, but recently such cars have been imported to us through parallel imports.

The editors of Daily-Motor.Ru got acquainted with the material of the Japanese edition “BestCar”, in which journalists from the “Land of the Rising Sun” raised the topic of the best subcompact crossovers in their opinion on their own market in a budget of 1.8 to 2.8 million yen (1 million 100 – 1 million 700 thousand rubles).

Each of the seven models that became participants in this TOP was rated in six categories. The resulting sum of points determined the final place of the car in the ranking. The best were three local models.

Nissan Kicks

One of the most popular crossovers in the Japanese market, which is praised for both driving performance and advanced technical equipment. In Japan, such cars cost from 2 million 800 yuan (1 million 700 thousand rubles). Approximately the same money is asked for parallel imported “Kiks” with a minimum mileage and 2022 release in Russia.

Nissan Kicks score (maximum 10 points for each item):

Driving comfort: 6 points;

· Quality of driving on the road: 8 points;

Off-road driving performance: 7 points;

Power: 6 points;

· Convenience of a back seat: 6 points;

·Economic efficiency: 8 points;

Comprehensive assessment: 41 points.

Mazda CX-3

The most compact model in the Mazda lineup not only has Mazda’s trademark handling, but also performs well in conditions when it is necessary to go on light off-road conditions.

In Japan, the CX-3 costs from 1.9 million yen (1 million 150 thousand rubles), but in Russia you can find at least a few ads selling parallel imported cars of 2022 for 2 million 400 thousand rubles.

Mazda CX-3 score (maximum 10 points for each item):

Ride comfort: 6 points;

· Quality of driving on the road: 7 points;

Off-road driving performance: 7 points;

Power: 9 points;

· Convenience of a back seat: 4 points;

·Economic efficiency: 6 points;

·Comprehensive assessment: 39 points.

Toyota Yaris Cross

A simple crossover that boasts not only the famous “Toyota” reliability, but also good driving performance. At the same time, its fuel efficiency is one of the best in the class.

In Russia, Toyota Yaris Cross, like the other two representatives of this rating, is imported using the “gray” method.

But if in his native Japan, a crossover costs from 1 million 900 thousand yen (1 million 150 thousand rubles), then it is very difficult to find such an SUV cheaper than 1 million 450 thousand rubles.
