Top striker Lewandowski still trains with Poland day before match against Orange | NOW

Robert Lewandowski seems to be available for Poland on Wednesday in the Nations League game with the Orange squad. The top striker just trained along on Tuesday evening.

Earlier it was reported that Lewandowski had sustained an injury against Italy (2-0 defeat) on Sunday and that his playing against the Orange squad was highly uncertain.

The 32-year-old Bayern Munich striker was visibly annoyed by his team’s weak play on Sunday and escaped a red card when he hit an opponent with an elbow. According to some Polish media, Lewandowski would be very annoyed by the tactical choices of national coach Jerzy Brzeczek.

Brzeczek said at the press conference before the training on Tuesday that he spoke with Lewandowski and that they have spoken everything out. “The atmosphere in the team is great,” he said.

The position of the national coach is under pressure after the defeat against Italy. “Of the 23 games under my leadership, we have only lost six”, Brezeczek himself emphasized.

‘Lewandowski may well be the best striker in the world’

Dutch national coach Frank de Boer gave a press conference earlier on Tuesday and it still seemed that Lewandowski would not play. “He is perhaps the best center forward in the world at the moment.”

“It wouldn’t be bad for us if he can’t play. I don’t know if it really is, we will see it tomorrow”, said De Boer, who expects a tough game anyway. “Poland has enough good players.”

Poland-Netherlands will be played in Chorzow on Wednesday and starts at 8.45 PM.

Standings in group A1 Nations League:

  • 1. Italy 5-9 (+3)
  • 2. Netherlands 5-8 (+2)
  • 3. Poland 5-7 (+1)
  • 4. Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-2 (-5)
