accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg and Olympiastützpunkt Hessen cooperate
Combining studies and a sporting career – accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg wants to support Hessian top athletes even better in the future. The basis for this is a cooperation agreement that the Olympiastützpunkt (OSP) Hessen in the Landessportbund Hessen eV has now concluded with the university. This guarantees senior athletes greater flexibility and grants them reduced tuition fees as part of a scholarship.
A sporting career shouldn’t be a dead end
“A sporting career shouldn’t be a dead end. We therefore consider it an important task to create conditions under which competitive sporting commitment and academic training can be reconciled, ”said Lutz Arndt, Vice President of Competitive Sports of the State Sports Association of Hesse, when signing the contract. “We are therefore pleased that we have been able to win another top-class cooperation partner with accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg. This means that the top athletes have every opportunity to choose the university, ”he said, referring to the fact that such agreements are now in place with numerous universities in Hessen.
Senior athletes have the best possible qualifications
Prof. dr. Spoke of a “win-win situation”. Florian Pfeffel, President of accadis University of Applied Sciences Bad Homburg. After all, the educational partnership is not only an advantage for senior athletes: “In order to achieve their sporting goals, these young men and women have to be focused, motivated and well organized. These characteristics are also of great importance in studies and can make them excellent graduates of our university. “
Olympics and bachelor’s degree in one year
One who is already on the way is Andreas Bechmann. The decathlete from Frankfurt Eintracht not only wants to qualify for the Olympic Games this year, but also has his bachelor’s degree in general management firmly in view. “I am very happy to have a partner in accadis University who gives me all academic opportunities and also takes my needs as an athlete into account. This is how the dual career can succeed – and that is extremely important. Because even if I should win the Olympics one day, as a thirty-year-old all-rounder, I wouldn’t have taken care of it. The course is an excellent basis for the time after sport. The fact that it can now be made even more flexible suits me and all other athletes who are constantly trying to optimize their time management. “
Flexibility and financial support
Bernd Brückmann, career advisor at OSP Hessen, played a key role in drawing up the cooperation agreement. He has been working with national team athletes for years and knows what they need for a dual career to succeed. “The flexibilization that has now been agreed, both in terms of a possible extension of the course as well as compulsory attendance and examination dates, is extremely important. After all, training camps or competition dates can hardly be influenced by the athletes, ”he explained when signing the agreement. The fact that part of the tuition fees are waived through the competitive sports scholarship is also a “very strong signal from accadis University”. After all, management athletes rarely have time for part-time jobs to finance their studies.
