Paris:Spain’s top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz and third-ranked Serbian Novak Djokovic are likely to meet in the French Open semifinals in men’s tennis. The draw for the tournament’s matches was completed on Thursday after both were included in the first half. The tournament starts on Sunday. Second-ranked Russian Daniil Medvedev will compete in the second half.
Alcaraz, Medvedev and Djokovic are the top three seeds respectively.
Spanish star Rafael Nadal, who has won 14 titles in the French Open competition on clay courts, is not competing this time due to injury. This is the first French Open tournament without Nadal since 2005.
Djokovic arrives in Paris in search of his 23rd Grand Slam title. If he wins here, he will become the owner of more Grand Slam titles in the men’s category. Nadal and Djokovic now share the record with 22 titles each.
Poland’s Iga Swietek is the first seed in the women’s category. Ariana Sabalenka of Belarus and Jessica Pegula of America are in second and third place respectively.
