The rating of the most reliable hatchbacks was compiled by the analysts of the British edition of Whatcar.com together with the insurance company MotorEasy. To do this, they conducted a survey of 25 thousand owners of such cars in the UK. Motorists were asked to list the problems and malfunctions that they encountered in the last two years of operation of the car. Most of them are in high demand in the secondary market and in Russia.

Mazda 3 (2014–2019)

Mazda 3 with a gasoline engine (2014-2019) became the leader in the reliability rating of used hatchbacks. In two years, only 3.6% of drivers surveyed had problems with this model. All these cases are related to the operation of electronics in the car. Despite the malfunctions, all these cars remained on the move, and the cost of repairs in service centers did not exceed 50 pounds (6153 rubles). In Russia, at the moment, the Japanese hatchback Mazda 3 of 2014 on the secondary market can be bought for about 1.1-1.5 million rubles.

Honda Civic (2012–2017)

In second place in the reliability rating is the Japanese hatchback Honda Civic. We are talking about a model exclusively with a gasoline engine, which was produced in 2012-2017. About 6% of the owners of this car over the past two years have been forced to turn to service centers. The main complaints are related to the brakes, gearbox and car body.

In most cases, the repair of Japanese cars took less than a week. Moreover, a quarter of the respondents said that all the work was carried out for them free of charge (under warranty). For other drivers, the average check in the service amounted to 1000-1500 pounds (123-180 thousand rubles). In Russia, it will not be any problem to buy a Honda Civic with mileage. For example, for a car manufactured in 2012, on average, you will have to pay a little more than 1 million rubles.

Hyundai i30 (2012–2017)

The first three in the ranking are closed by the Korean model Hyundai i30 of the second generation (2012-2017). The authors of the study claim that this hatchback surpasses its direct competitors, the Ford Focus and Opel Astra, in terms of reliability. Over the past 24 months, 16% of respondents had problems with this machine. Moreover, the range of faults is quite wide. So, most often the i30 broke down: the brake system, gearbox, suspension and air conditioning. Otherwise, all the malfunctions were not serious. All cars were able to get to the service on their own and spent less than one week there. Moreover, 43% of cars were repaired under warranty. In Russia, a Hyundai i30 with a mileage of 2013 can be found cheaper than 1 million rubles.

Honda Civic (2012–2017)

Also in the top five of the most reliable hatchbacks was the Honda Civic (2012–2017) with a diesel engine. So, only 14% of car owners reported problems with this Japanese model. Moreover, the malfunctions in the car were associated exclusively with electronics. Repair hatchback in service centers took less than a week. For 33% of machines, work was carried out under warranty. In Russia, Honda Civic is practically not represented on sites selling used cars.

Seat Leon (2013–2020)

Another diesel hatchback in the ranking is the Seat Leon. The survey found that 24% of 2013-2020 car owners experienced a problem in the past two years. The most common were problems with the body. In most cases, work in the service center took one day. The owners had to pay for repairs from 50 to 100 pounds (6-12 thousand rubles). In Russia, Seat Leon can hardly be called a popular model in the secondary market. Most of the cars for sale are equipped with gasoline engines (this version of the hatchback is less reliable, according to the authors of the study). A model with a diesel unit, if desired, can be found in the ads. For example, for a 2018 car with low mileage, you will have to pay about 2.6 million rubles.

Also in the reliability rating were:

Toyota Auris petrol (2007-2013) Alfa Romeo Giulietta (2010-2020) Ford Focus diesel (2004-2011) Mazda 3 petrol (2009-2013) Seat Leon petrol (2013-2020) Honda Accord (2008-2015) BMW 1-Series (2011-2019) Mercedes A-Class (2005-2012) Nissan Pulsar (2014-2018) Kia Ceed (2012-2018) Opel Astra (2015-2021)
