Top-ranked Private Schools in Thionville with Outstanding Exam Results and Comprehensive Support

In Thionville, two establishments, under contract, share private education: the Notre-Dame de La Providence Institute and Saint-Pierre-Chanel. The first is almost a century old and welcomes pupils from the small nursery section to the BTS class (2,820 in total). The second opened its doors in 1957 and receives middle and high school students (2,200). Their reputation is second to none. For many years, their pass rates for the baccalaureate (100%) and mentions (between 75 and 92%) have placed these two establishments in the first places, if not on the podium, of the ranking of high schools in Moselle and of Lorraine. Their secrets to achieving such results? A more or less important selection on the ballot at the entrance, but not only. “We provide comprehensive support for the student through personalized support and dedicated staff,” explains Olivier Ritz, head of the establishment coordinator at La Providence. Since 2018, we have also been committed to ensuring pedagogical continuity: from a single day of absence of a teacher, he is replaced. »

A third more college students in the private sector

Inevitably, this highly supervised teaching, together with almost certain success in exams, is attractive to families throughout the north of Moselle. In a territory and a city where the social level is high – 40% of working people from Thionville work in Luxembourg – they do not hesitate to put their hands in their wallets for the education of their children. In Thionville, if the share of private elementary education is rather low compared to the public, the trend is reversed in college: in 2022, there were 1,441 students in the public sector against 2,528 in the private sector! And in high school (general stream), the numbers balance each other out. The director of La Providence does not hide it, “the pressure is strong” when entering 6th grade. The establishment receives “450 requests for 200 places available” and arbitrates “according to the order of arrival of the files”. However, its director, in office since 2018, has not seen an increase in requests in recent years, “it’s stable”.
