Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government has again added a new fleet for the Indonesian Navy. On Sunday, (12/5/2021), Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo again added that he had launched the 60-meter Fast Missile Ship (KCR) at PT PAL, Surabaya.
This KCR itself is the fifth KCR made domestically. This KCR will later be included in the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) category which has agile maneuverability, is able to move quickly, and is in accordance with its function for securing maritime areas and pursuing foreign ships that violate the Indonesian maritime territory.
“Without a strong maritime power, it is impossible for our country to be strong. It is also supported by a strong defense industry so that we can become an independent country,” said the former Kopassus Danjen in his remarks, quoted Monday (6/12/2021).
The launch of the fifth KCR ship is proof of Indonesia’s capabilities and competencies. Previously, PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) had built four units of the 60-meter KCR platform, namely KRI Sampari-628, KRI Tombak-629, KRI Halasan-630, and KRI Kerambit-627.
“The KCR is expected to be a formidable naval fleet to safeguard Indonesia’s sovereignty,” said PT PAL’s Managing Director, Kaharuddin Djenod.
The ship, which is planned to be named KRI Kapak, has a length of 60 meters and a width of 8.10 meters. The ship is able to accommodate a crew of 55 people, weighs 500 tons, and can travel at a maximum speed of 28 knots at full load conditions and 5 days of endurance. The ship has a cruising range of 2400 Nm at a speed of 20 knots.
After being launched, the fifth 60-meter KCR will then undergo a series of testing processes from experts and technicians, before being handed over to the Indonesian Navy as a user.
