Top performance in perfect conditions – ÖRV

From Friday to Sunday, the 94th Austrian Championships in all boat and age classes take place at Lake Ossiacher See, and they are carried out by the Villach rowing club. Also on the second day of the competition, in perfect conditions, numerous medal decisions with ÖRV top athletes and many hopes for young talent were on the program.

In the absence of the injured Olympic medalist Magdalena Lobnig, Lara Tiefenthaler (rowing club STAW) rowed to gold in the women’s single. The newly crowned U23 European champion won ahead of Olympic participant Valentina Cavallar (rowing club Friesen) and Tabea Minichmayr (Salzburg rowing club Möve).

In the men’s one, ÖRV national team athletes also landed on the top spots. Julian Schöberl (WSV Ottensheim) secured the title ahead of Lukas Reim (Salzburg rowing club Möve), bronze went to Sebastian Kabas (rowing club Friesen).

Peter Sebastian Gruber landed a favorite victory in the junior single. The athlete from the Gmunden rowing club relegated Mathias Mair (rowing club Seewalchen) and Leon Lindorfer (WSV Ottensheim) to their places.

The boats of the First Vienna Rowing Club LIA were sovereign in the women’s double scull final. Louisa Altenhuber, who competed with Valentina Cavallar in the LG double sculls at the Olympic Games, clinched a start-to-finish victory with club colleague Laura Arndorfer. The two had already won gold with the double fours on Friday. Her club colleagues Caroline Haginger / Paula Horauer landed in second place. Katharina Lobnig rowed with Annika Schildberger (Völkermarkter Sport- und Turnverein 1868) on the bronze place.

Lorenz Lindorfer and Jakob Stadler (WSV Ottensheim) stood out as the fastest men’s double sculls. The two crossed the finish line just 57 hundredths before Michal Karlovsky / Gabriel Hohensasser (Villach rowing club from 1881). Adrian Reininger and Bernhard Öllinger (Linzer Ruderverein Ister) completed the podium.

In the men’s LG two-man competition, the U23 European Championship and World Cup participants Luca Sauerbier / Bernd Gutschi (RV Villach) won the title in a very exciting decision ahead of Konrad Hultsch / Anton Sigl (RV Wiking Linz). In the LG men’s double quad, gold went to RV Wiking Linz (Mario Minichberger, Paul Ruttmann, Konrad Hultsch, Anton Sigl).

The final point on Saturday was the men’s eighth finale. The First Vienna Rowing Club LIA athletes were in a class of their own: Johannes Elias Weberndorfer, Stefan-Alexander Kratzer, Teodor-Tan Nguyen-Tien, Daniel Wagner, Noe Plotitza, Bruno Bachmair, Rudolph Querfeld, Ferdinand Querfeld and helmswoman Carolin Arndorfer left the boats of the RV Wiking Linz and Wiener-Ruder-Club Pirat clearly behind them.

ÖRV coach Christoph Engl is very satisfied with the way the championships have gone so far: “We find excellent conditions here. The water was more or less smooth today, especially the conditions in the final races were almost perfect. All athletes look forward to a great backdrop. The Villach rowing club is doing a very, very good job as an organizer. And the weather should actually still be ideal on the final day. “
