Taras Bobanich is accused by Moscow of causing hundreds of civilian deaths in eastern Ukraine during hostilities in 2014.
“A Russian reconnaissance team killed the Neo-Nazi leader while on patrol about 5 km south of the town of Izium in Ukraine’s Kharkov region,” the ministry said in a statement, reported by RT.com.

Russia’s defense ministry said he was the deputy commander of the Right Sector in charge of reserve operations.

The Ministry of Defense did not disclose the circumstances of Bobanich’s death. Social media The Right Sector reported he was murdered Friday near Izium, calling him a “legendary nationalist”.

The 33-year-old man, whose nickname “Hummer” comes from western Ukraine.
