Top Movies and Shows to Watch this Week: Love Actually, Deepwater Horizon, The House, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Sex Education, I Think You Should Leave, White House Plumbers, Somebody Somewhere

Love Actually

Movie. In the run-up to Christmas, eight Londoners face love troubles. The new British Prime Minister falls in love with coffee lady Natalie, his sister Karen suspects her husband Harry of adultery, and Daniel tries to get over the death of his wife, while his son Sam longs for the attention of a classmate. And meanwhile, writer Jamie falls for his Portuguese housekeeper in the south of France.

Deepwater Horizon

Movie. As of April 2010, there is no larger oil drilling platform than the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Despite the impressive drilling depth and size, the drilling rig is plagued by technical problems. However, management has become impatient with the many delays and is imposing shorter inspections and tests, which is causing protests among staff. The crew’s fears come true when the platform faces a catastrophe that turns into the worst environmental disaster in American history.

The House

Documentary reality series. Documentary reality series in which Eric Goens lets a famous guest expose his or her soul in ‘The House’, isolated from their normal world. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

Anyone who wasn’t blown away by Asteroid City can give Wes Anderson a second chance with the short film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. In his latest print, Anderson takes you to the world of a rich man who wants to learn a special meditation technique to see through playing cards. Becoming even richer is on the Brit’s wish list. But he soon discovers that life offers more depth.

Sex Education

An image in which all the main characters make faces as if they are about to cum: the poster for the fourth and final season of Sex Education, as usual, leaves little to the imagination. People who are not familiar with the series will see it as further proof that the British series is only about sex, but fans know better: even if the young characters have often and willingly slept with each other in recent seasons, Sex Education was mainly about growing up, the problems of puberty and how you as a young person can find yourself in a confusing world.

We still have to be patient to find out how things turn out with Eric and Adam and whether everything will turn out well between Maeve and Otis now that they live on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. But one thing is certain: the climax, the climax if you like, will last a lot longer than usual. Netflix announced the length of the remaining eight episodes, with the finale clocking in at 85 minutes.

I Think You Should Leave

Tim Robinson continues to build on his unique, incomparable universe with the third season of the absurd sketch show I Think You Should Leave. Come for the hilarious parody of Love Island and other dating shows, stay for the characters who radiate enormous sadness amid all the madness.

White House Plumbers

Yes Minister, Veep, The Thick of It, Years and Years, yes, even The 16: we don’t easily say no to good political satire. So we had to look forward to White House Plumbers, a five-part miniseries about the two ‘plumbers’, played by Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux, who had to do everything in their power to ensure the re-election of Richard Nixon. Their duties also included a burglary of the Democratic Party office. We all know how that ended thanks to the Watergate scandal. The director is David Mandel, who produced the last three seasons of Veep and co-wrote Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. So that should end better than that infamous burglary.

Somebody Somewhere

No big stars, no evocative synopsis, no spectacular scenes. And yet, the first season of Somebody Somewhere was some of the best we saw last year. A small but very nice series about some loners and outsiders who live in a town somewhere in the middle of the United States. Among all those colorful characters you have Sam, played by Bridget Everett, who also wrote this series. Troubled by the past, she finds a place and herself again. It produces wonderful tranches de vie, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always wonderfully beautiful. The second season continues on the chosen path, with again seven relatively short episodes.
