Karol G, “Qué chimba de vida” (Bichota Records)
Colombian star Karol G closes 2023 with the song that best describes how she feels after a year as enormous as the one she has had: “Qué chimba de vida.” Produced by MAG and Edgar Barrera, “Qué chimba” seamlessly fuses Mexican music and urban rhythms to deliver a trumpet-driven celebration track in which Karol remembers special moments — including a stadium tour, meeting Rihanna and an album World No. 1 — that have marked the beginning of a new era for the superstar. “Ugh, what a joke of a life, I’m living the life “What I wanted, they spoke badly, I made them swallow saliva, this is for those who said I couldn’t,” Karol sings with confidence over a subtle trap rhythm. — GRISELDA FLORES
Eladio Carrión, “TQMQA” (Rimas Entertainment)
Between bright marimbas and soft bass lines, Eladio Carrión shows his softer side. In the emotional ballad “TQMQA” (initials of “I love you more than yesterday”), the Puerto Rican artist sings a serenade to the rhythm of Afrobeats. The song resonates with the universal longing for family connection, especially poignant during the holidays. “But if I knew what gives me pleasure/Seeing you smile/And when you say ‘I love you’ in my ear (I love you)/I’ll give you my everything if you give me the okay,” he sings. Produced by DVLP, Xay and Western Weiss, “TQMQA” is the first single from his upcoming album, due out early next year. The accompanying clip shows a montage of old and modern home videos, including images of the artist’s parents enjoying a day on a sailboat while they reminisce about fond moments of their children’s growing up. —ISABELA RAYGOZA
Juanes, “We were born alone” (Universal Music Latino)
Juanes fuses his characteristic rock sound in this song with strong influences Westernwritten and produced by Julio Reyes Copello for the upcoming series Zorro from Prime Video. Driven by a rhythm upbeat of drums, bright brass and guitars, the song addresses uncertainty within a difficult journey of life, with verses like “We were born alone, alone we leave without any explanation/ When you have everything you take nothing/ When you have nothing everything It’s worse,” as the chorus says. “It is a portrait of the unbearable loneliness of a human being who faces survival in adverse and hostile circumstances,” Reyes Copello said in a statement, highlighting that “The Fox It is perhaps the only story that unites the United States, Mexico and Spain in a very interesting historical context.” “I always wanted to work with Julio Reyes Copello and I liked the song from the moment he sent it, since I felt that it was created to fit me perfectly,” added Juanes, whose voice and performance quality could not be a better fit. —SIGAL RATNER-ARIAS
Mario Bautista & Karol Sevilla, “Anónimo” (Warner Music México)
Mexican singer-songwriter Mario Bautista and singer Karol Sevilla join forces to deliver a beautiful, strong-voiced new single, “Anónimo.” Written by Bautista along with producer Abelardo, Yera, Nabález and Sevilla, this song perfectly combines the sweet and dreamy voices of both artists with regional Mexican and pop elements. The song talks about when feelings arise between friends and they find themselves at a point where they do not know how to confess what they feel for fear of not being reciprocated. Still, anonymous signals are given as they prepare to take the next step. — INGRID FAJARDO
