Tehran, December 29, 2023 (Xinhua) – One of the top Iranian entrepreneurs said in a recent interview with Xinhua that one of the most important economic challenges facing the world is to reduce the negative effects in the post-Covid-19 phase to a minimum.
When commenting on the global economy in 2023, Majid Reza Hariri, Chairman of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, pointed out that for the first time in the past six decades, the inflation rate in all European countries and major economies showed a significant upward trend in 2023, stressing that… Although these countries have managed to control their inflation to some extent, the effects of the pandemic remain.
He stated, “The global economy is also facing the (threat) of recession. The growth rates of some major economies in the world have become negative.”
Hariri pointed out that the most important challenge the world will face in 2024 to improve its economic situation is paving the way for cooperation and making efforts to achieve this goal.
He said, “The question is to what extent countries will be willing to work together to overcome this crisis, as happened in 2008 when all countries joined forces to solve the global financial crisis.”
Turning to Iran’s economic performance in 2023, the head of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the country has managed to free itself from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to some extent and the economic problems caused by the outbreak of the pandemic.
“But the negative effects of the three-year pandemic on the Iranian economy will continue for some time,” Hariri said.
He pointed to the breakthroughs made by the current administration under Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi regarding oil exports in 2023, saying that the country is exporting its crude oil to the global market under better conditions.
He said, “This led to a relative improvement in Iran’s economic indicators, such as unemployment rates, inflation, and the value of the national currency, as well as achieving greater economic stability in the country.”
In addition, Hariri stated that over the past two years, Iran — thanks to the good performance of the Raisi administration in terms of economic diplomacy — has been able to improve its relations with those countries whose economies are not significantly affected by the United States.
He cited Iran’s accession to the BRICS group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as two other achievements that would help the country strengthen its alliance and relations with its current trading partners.
Hariri highlighted that one of Iran’s main future economic challenges will be to minimize the effects of sanctions on its economy and make it more resistant to them.
