Top! Indonesian citizens can go to Thailand without quarantine, these are the conditions

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Thai government has given the green light to travelers to vacation without having to quarantine. A total of 63 countries in the world, including Indonesia, are on the list of low-risk countries for Covid-19 that are allowed to visit.

Quoted from the Thai embassy website, travelers must be fully vaccinated, at least 14 days before traveling. This is the main condition of the provisions.

Under the new national program, incoming travelers must also spend the first night at a pre-approved hotel. They must obtain a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test result before being able to travel freely across the country.

Apart from Indonesia, all other ASEAN countries are also allowed to visit without quarantine, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam.

The United States (US), China and several European countries are also included in the list. Officials hope to take advantage of travelers from the northern hemisphere fleeing the coming winter.

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia-Pacific. For the past 18 months the country has imposed strict pandemic entry rules that have been too restrictive and burdensome for the travel industry.

Prior to the pandemic, tourism accounted for about 12% of Thailand’s GDP and the capital was the most visited city in the world. The crisis has cost Thailand about 3 million tourism-dependent jobs and around $50 billion in annual revenues, Reuters reported.

Thai officials tested the waters with the reopening of the resort island of Phuket in July. It allows fully vaccinated tourists to skip the mandatory two-week quarantine provided they stay on the island, where tourism accounts for 90% of the local economy.

However, “Phuket Sandbox” is less popular. Arrivals to the island in July were only 1% of pre-pandemic levels.

Now airlines are rushing to prepare the country for an influx of visitors, although returns will be relatively slow. The finance ministry forecasts only 180,000 foreign arrivals this year and 7 million next year, compared to around 40 million in 2019.

There are now a total of more than 1.9 million infections in Thailand and more than 19,000 deaths since April. About 42% of the 72 million population have been vaccinated.
