The case has advertising links that provide DinSide with income. The editors work independently of this.
On DinSide you will find cases with advertisement links, which lead you to the right to purchase the product. We believe this is a good function for our users.
What we write about, and how products are mentioned, is chosen by the editors regardless of this. No one can buy editorial coverage from us. But if you buy a product via such a link, DinSide receives income from it. These links will be labeled “ad link”.

It turns out that old Ikea items are still very much in demand.
Several products that have been discontinued, or are only sold out for the time being, are sold used at a considerably higher price than the original.
An example of this is the “Stockholm” rattan cabinet, which went out of production in 2020.
– This cabinet became very popular and has been in demand afterwards. But unfortunately won’t come back in, says press manager and head of public relations at Ikea, Stine Odland The online newspaperwho mentioned the case first.

The popular cabinet cost NOK 3,999 when it was launched in 2017, informs press officer at Ikea, Alexandra Marie Engvold Backström, to DinSide.
If you were to buy the same cabinet on the online marketplace Finn today, it would cost anything from NOK 5,800 to NOK 10,000.

Another Ikea item that was, and still is, highly sought after is a lamp from the Varmblixt production. It was launched in 2023 and is still in the range at NOK 999.

However, the product is currently sold out. But you can still get hold of it at Finn – if you’re willing to shell out a few hundred kroner more than the original price.
A carpet with the writing “KEEP OFF”, which was called Ikea Art Event when it was launched in 2019, cost NOK 2,999.
Now, however, it is being sold for a staggering NOK 29,900 on Finn.

The “WET GRASS” rug, which was called Markerad when it was also launched in 2019, then cost NOK 1,499. Now you have to fork out NOK 8,000 if you want it.
– We are constantly contacted by customers looking for popular Ikea products, says Backström.
Changes classic
Was sold for 200,000
The press guard at Ikea says that it is difficult to give a precise answer as to how quickly the goods were taken off the shelves when Ikea started selling them.
– But sometimes the most popular items disappear in just minutes, as we saw with, for example, the Markerad collection and the Varmblixt collection, says Backström.
STILL IN CONTACT: Press officer at Ikea, Alexandra Marie Engvold Backström, says that it is possible to be contacted by e-mail if you would like a sold-out item that is still in the range. Photo: Private Show more
She says that they see many iconic Ikea products on the second-hand market.
– We find products such as Amiral, Guide and Ikea Ps to be particularly popular. We also don’t leave out the Cavelli chair from 1959, which in 2022 went for NOK 200,000 at auction and cost around NOK 300 new in 1959, says Backström.

– Connects it with childhood
But what exactly is the reason why demand is so high for certain goods?
– Ikea has always worked hard to offer good products at a reasonable price, and with these items in particular, we may be particularly good at it, says Backström.

Some of these products are also about design, the press watchdog informs. These often have a higher price tag.
An example of this is the Markerad collection, which included the “WET GRASS” carpet. It was a collaborative collection with fashion designer and multi-artist Virgil Abloh.
– Thanks to our long history in Norway, there are probably also many people who associate Ikea with childhood homes or parents and grandparents, which perhaps also contributes to some products being particularly sought after on the second-hand market.
– Got a bit of a shock
Not planning to relaunch
The big question is whether Ikea is going to take some of the most popular and coveted items back in.
The press watchdog states that some of these products were launched in limited editions.
– There are no plans to relaunch these products, says Backström.
– But Ikea has recently relaunched a number of iconic products through the Newly manufactured collections, so it is not out of the question that an old favorite could be relaunched in a new guise sometime in the future.
