1. Two fan zones at La Couronne and Champniers
Xavier Bonnefont announced it at the end of last year: the City of Angoulême will not install a giant screen, for the sake of savings. The La Couronne rugby club will manage the only free fan zone in the agglomeration, with its first Fest’ovale. Three days of celebration around the World Cup and the Couronnais Rugby Omnisports Club (COC). The party will begin Friday at 6 p.m. Retransmission of the match on a large screen placed on the ground, refreshment bar, catering and DJ to prolong the evening.
The next day, day devoted to women: workshops with the rugby school, matches of the different sections in the afternoon. Musical evening and paella (8€, reservation on 0683226488). At 9 p.m.: live broadcast of the England-Argentina match. On Sunday, the festivities continue at 2 p.m. with a friendly senior men’s match. The site will be decorated with several stands. Champniers also hosts a major event. Brice Javerzac, owner of the restaurant Le Comptoir de Brice, on the Plateau, is organizing a bodega on the Prés de l’or site, on the theme of the Basque Country. On the program, a giant screen, brass band, restaurant serving Basque specialties and a DJ until 3am. The restorer “hopes to gather at least 2000 people”. He fixed the entry at 1 €, to amortize part of the organizational costs.

For lovers of reliable values, the cafés of Angoulême are there. Place des Halles will be the scene of a double World Cup and Retro party evening, the last date of a series of events throughout the summer. On the program: aperitif accompanied by a DJ installed on the forecourt of the halls. At 9 p.m., each bar in the square broadcasts the match on its side. “Like at the football World Cup, explains Alexandre Cousin, of Le Chat Noir. It was complicated to set up a common screen for the whole place. » From 11 p.m., a DJ will surf the rugby fervor with hits from the 1970s to 2000.
The addresses accustomed to scrums, drops and tries will get into the atmosphere of the competition. The River 102 reserves part of its space for the retransmission of the matches of the XV of France. La Table du marché, place Victor-Hugo, or the Kennedy pub, in Vieil-Angoulême, will also broadcast Friday’s match.
3. Festivities in the agglomeration
Other businesses in the agglomeration plan to support the blues. Beer lovers will head for Ruelle. The artisanal brewery Deuzeff will broadcast the match on the big screen. The V & B brewery in the western Mountains area, in Champniers, will go all out. Outdoor screens, foodtruck and concert by the group Blue Child in the first part. The bar in the shopping area is even going to be an avid spectator. The five matches of the weekend will be broadcast live. Including an Italy-Namibia, a secondary competition poster.
Plans to run away from the oval ball
The next two months promise to be complicated for those allergic to rugby. But islets free of any ovality emerge here and there. On Friday, the bars Bock n’Roll (boulevard Pasteur, next to the halls) and Le Vin d’orge (6 rue de Bordeaux) are organizing a craft beer evening, with the Brasserie du Grand Paris and the Fauve brewery. The tastings will be accompanied by DJ sets dub, groovy at Vin d’orge, and hip-hop, funk at Bock n’Roll.
