THE TOP EVENT

Carnival Village

The “Village of Traditions” opens in the Summer Garden over the weekend in Verona, from 16 to 18 February. The Veronese Carnival celebrations will begin in the heated tensile structure with numerous, unmissable events, designed and dedicated to citizens in different age groups, in particular families. There will be no shortage of typical Veronese food and wine products, to be tasted according to ancient traditions and typical features: from gnocchi to tortellini, from risotto to tastasal to pearà with cotechino, from polenta with mushrooms to polenta with ribs.

EVENTS

Valentine’s Day Fair

Bussolengo dresses up for the Valentine’s Day Fair which celebrates its 313th edition. An event not to be missed with the traditional fair through the streets of the town where there will be a succession of events, attractions, prizes, cultural initiatives, music and shows for everyone until February 18th. A highly anticipated edition of the Fair, with a truly rich programme, which combines tradition and innovation.

Weekend in Cantina

Unforgettable weekend with the Vogadori winery in Valpolicella. An extraordinary food and wine event will be held on February 17th and 18th, dedicated to the exploration of Amarone and the wine treasures of the cellar.

Letters. Dear Juliet Award 2024

The art of love correspondence has, for centuries, had the same home: that of Juliet, in Verona. Letters addressed to Shakespeare’s heroine arrive from all over the world. Some of the most beautiful will be awarded on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Teatro Nuovo, during the “Letters. Dear Juliet Award 2024” event. Near the courtyard which houses the most famous balcony in literature, the event will be an opportunity to take a journey into the world of epistolary exchanges, starting from the literary ones up to the most intimate and daily missives.

MUSICA

Marco Ongaro

The Verona in Love Festival is the ideal context for the presentation concert of Marco Ongaro’s new album, “The spy who loved you”. The special concert “The spy who loved you (live)” will be held on Friday 16 February at the Camploy Theater in Verona at 9pm.

New Trolls

On 16 February 2024 at the Alcione Theater in Borgo Venezia in Verona, from 9 pm, an amazing unmissable concert with the great masters of Italian music: the New Trolls.

Baroque Festival refreshments

Verona returns to the capital of baroque music with the second edition of the “Ristori Baroque Festival”. Between 15 and 28 February, seven events at the Ristori Theater and in the Space of San Pietro in Monastero. Eight thematic “off” events spread across different places in the city: from the Literary Society to Palazzo Castellani di Sermeti, home of Italy Sotheby’s International Realty, to the discovery of seventeenth-century Baroque Verona with guided walks.

VitaMina, the voice and the guitar

Concert dedicated to the great protagonist of the Italian song Mina. Friday 16 February at 8.45pm, with Susie dal Zen and David Cremoni. At the Garonzi Multifunctional Hall in the second district.

Cheerful with fire

On Sunday 18 February in Fucina Machiavelli the guitarist Eros Roselli will perform with the Maffei Quartet in the Quintet in F major for guitar and strings, op. 143 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

THEATER

I am Artaud

The theater show “Io sono Artaud” by and with Nevio Gambula will be staged on Friday 16 February at the Modus Theatre. The poet Artaud, the actor, the director, the visionary, relives his life experience through a delirious story. Nine years spent in a mental hospital, suffering every form of physical and mental violence, in a world where cruel and insensitive doctors and officials of a society that rejects him roam.

I place myself in the bank and we don’t talk about it anymore

Micromega presents “I place myself in the bank and we don’t talk about it anymore”. Adaptation and direction by Matteo Spiazzi. Saturday 17 February at 9pm and Sunday 18 February at 4.30pm at the Camploy Theater in Verona.

Capitalism*

On Friday 16th and Saturday 17th February on the stage of Fucina Machiavelli the Generazione Disagio collective celebrates ten years with the show “Capitalism*”: an experiment in contamination, a comic hybrid between stand up comedy, theatre, satire, flow of thoughts.

CINEMA

Among the new releases in cinemas in Verona we highlight:

  • At last the Dawn – «Film directed by Saverio Costanzo, it is set in the 1950s in Rome and tells the story of a young Roman woman named Mimosa (Rebecca Antonaci), about to marry a man loved more by her family than by her. The girl goes to the Cinecittà studios to audition as an extra in a historical costume film set in Ancient Egypt starring Josephine Esperanto (Lily James), a Hollywood star, and Sean Lockwood (Joe Keery), an actor with whom she is infatuated Mimosa. This experience will make her experience an infinite night full of emotion, during which she will rediscover herself.” Director: Saverio Costanzo.
  • Romeo and Juliet – «Film directed by Giovanni Veronesi, it tells the story of Vittoria, a young actress who during an audition is severely humiliated by a well-known, very cynical director. The role for which the girl had applied was that of Juliet, but Vittoria did not give up and she decided to try the casting again with a false identity.” Director: Giovanni Veronesi.

EXHIBITIONS

Exhibition of orchids

From 3 to 25 February the 35th “Orchid Exhibition” returns to the Garden of Bussolengo, an extraordinary event that celebrates the fusion between the magical world of orchids and the fascinating cinematic universe. This year, the exhibition is entitled “Orchid Film Festival”, a unique experience that combines the beauty of orchids with the magic of cinema.

Beyond Caroto. The drawing under the color

Verona once again pays homage to Giovanni Caroto with an exhibition that delves into the creative process and the technical characteristics of the Veronese artist’s painting. From 19 January and until 7 April 2024 at the “GB Cavalcaselle” Fresco Museum at Juliet’s Tomb you can visit the exhibition “Oltre Caroto. Drawing under colour”, curated by Luca Fabbri, Monica Molteni, Giulia Adami.

Maria Callas and Verona

La Divina and Verona, a whole story to tell and celebrate. Reference for all fans of bel canto, Maria Anna Cecilia Sofia Kalogeropoulos, aka Maria Callas, made her debut in Verona in 1947 and lived here until 1954. As part of the celebrations for the centenary of her birth, on 2 December 1923, Verona continues to dedicate particular attention to her through a major exhibition, scheduled from 12 January to 28 March 2024 in the spaces of the “EF Dall’Abaco” Conservatory, entirely dedicated to her and her important bond with the city.

Torn Curtain. Good morning, good evening

From 10 February to 4 May 2024, the Studio la Città gallery presents a mysterious and unusual exhibition, a syncopated duet between the curators and the public, in which impossible dialogues between various protagonists are staged. Over 60 works on display including a look at the 80s, photography and fashion, international artists and ink nudes linked, untied, to the fragile worlds of ceramics, 20th century landscapes, abstract works, as well as engravings and drawings full of mystery and apocalypse.

Terracotta images

Offerings in sanctuaries, requests for grace from the gods or homage for a grace already received. The male and female heads or half-heads made of terracotta and protagonists of the temporary exhibition set up from 8 November 2023 until 6 October 2024 at the Archaeological Museum at the Roman Theater were intended for this purpose. A new exhibition itinerary, curated by Margherita Bolla. A rich collection of 380 terracotta figures, preserved in the Museum archives and not usually exhibited to the public. Images coming from the Verona area and belonging to private collections which then merged into the Civic Museums of Verona.

CONTEMPORARY NON-STOP. The breath of nature | AIR

“CONTEMPORARY NON-STOP. The breath of nature | ARIA”, curated by Patrizia Nuzzo (curator responsible for the modern and contemporary art collection), is open to the public from 7 October 2023 to 6 October 2024 to offer a new experiential journey focused on the element of air, understood in the dual value of a generative or destructive principle. A journey which, from the single fragment of the work of Anaximenes of Miletus (586 BC – 528 BC), finds its development to become an exhibition on the occasion of the third appointment dedicated to the contemporary of the GAM of Verona.

Giulio Paolini And in Arcadia I

The unpublished project by Giulio Paolini entitled “Giulio Paolini Et in Arcadia Ego”, created at the Gallery of Modern Art, curated by Patrizia Nuzzo and Stefano Raimondi, is a project that brings together the Civic Museums – Gallery of Modern Art Achille Forti and ArtVerona, for a format specifically designed for the GAM spaces, which from 15 October 2023 to 3 March 2024, at Palazzo della Ragione, presents to the public the key elements of the artist’s research, in which unpublished works, conceived to the Veronese museum, dialogue with works from the public collection, such as “The Apparition of the Virgin” by Paolini himself, present in the civic collection since 2002.
