Designer Adrian Newey leaves Red Bull Racing. The 65-year-old Englishman has worked for the Austrian formation since 2006 and will leave the team at the beginning of 2025. He will step down from his duties related to the development of the F1 car, but will continue with the project of the first road-going sports car from Red Bull is still finished.

Newey has been linked with a move to Ferrari, but other teams also appear interested in the designer’s services.

Newey’s departure is the next episode in a turbulent period for Red Bull Racing. Earlier this year, team boss Christian Horner was accused of inappropriate behavior towards a female employee within the team. Horner was acquitted after an internal investigation, but the unrest continued for a long time.

“For almost two decades it has been a great honor to play a key role in Red Bull Racing’s progression from newcomer to multiple champion. Now it feels like a good time to pass the baton to others and seek new challenges,” says Newey.

Newey is partly responsible for two very successful periods for Red Bull Racing. After a number of years in the middle of the pack, Newey and the team struck with the 2009 rule change. Red Bull started winning races with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Between 2010 and 2013, Vettel and Red Bull won four world titles.

A lean period followed, until Max Verstappen became world champion in 2021 after an exciting title battle with Lewis Hamilton. With the new rules of 2022, Newey and Red Bull struck again. Red Bull has had the best car on the grid for more than two years.

Before his move to Red Bull, Newey already enjoyed successful periods with world titles at Williams (Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve) and McLaren (Mika Hakkinen). In total, Newey was involved in thirteen drivers’ titles and twelve constructors’ titles.
