The sausage sandwich that top model Chrissy Teigen ate at the kiosk on Museumplein on Friday is no longer available. She posted it on her Instagram with about 38.5 million followers and that’s how the sandwich suddenly became world famous. “I came from Delft especially to taste it,” says a woman on the terrace.

Bratwurst, cheese, bacon, salami, piccalilli sauce, sauerkraut and fried onions. It’s on the sandwich Teigen ordered. The model was with her husband, singer John Legend, who performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. “The best bratwurst I’ve ever eaten,” Teigen said of the junkyard dog, as the bun is called.
overwhelmed
The employees of the tent initially did not realize that they were dealing with a top model. That only came when they were called from all sides and customers started talking about it. “That’s how the ball started rolling. Yes, we are a bit overwhelmed by all the attention.” Where the sandwich is normally ordered about five times on a Monday morning, it has now been sold at least twenty times by half past eleven.

“We saw that Chrissy Teigen had put this on Instagram. So then we thought: let’s stop by for lunch,” says an American couple who just visited the Van Gogh Museum. And another woman has come from Delft for the sandwich. “I saw it on TV yesterday. So that’s why I took the train here this morning.” And the bun does not disappoint. “It tastes great. With such a thick smoked sausage and all the additives.”
nine euros
The employees think that the sandwich is now world famous as a nice tribute to the former owner of the kiosk, Mark Wielhouwer, who passed away last year. “He invented the sandwich a few years ago,” says employee Elise Croese. “His wife had some reservations about it. Because it is really a lot. But it is really a top sandwich, it turns out. That was before Chrissy Teigen started eating it, but it will always remain that way.”
The sandwich is now, at nine euros, not very cheap. But that price is still before the success. Will the price go up even more? “No, we just stay normal, nice Amsterdam”, says Croese. “Act normal, then you’re acting crazy enough. No, that’s fine.”
