Kristaps Krievkalnas 50th anniversary concert
April 7 in Vidzeme concert hall “Cēsis”
If we imagine Latvian composers and music authors, the name of Krievkalns may not be at the top of the list, but this does not diminish the importance of Kristaps in the world of Latvian music. He has composed, arranged and accompanied musical shows, concerts, theater performances in such a large number that it is better not to start counting. In the first part of the concert together with the Saulkrasti Choir “Anima” Kristaps will play the song cycle “Krastā sāsaulnosts” while in the second part he will lead the audience through the experience together with his colleagues Ieva Kerevica, Ginta Krievkalna, Normund Rutuli, Mārtiņas Kanter and others.

The coast of Lielupe is almost reachable by hand. So is Rundāle Castle. Perhaps it is worth visiting the historical pearls of Zemgale on Saturday to enjoy the evening in the premises of the Mazmežotne manor. Almost nothing has been preserved from the historical manor itself, but the music sounds great here. Elegant jazz for an elegant Saturday and listeners.

Nowadays, everything is really merging into one. In a club where music is played every day drum and bass and techno, the alternative rock band “Purple Negative” will present its debut album. For me, the sounds of their music reminded me of the time when Kurt Cobain’s wife Courtney Love’s band “Hole” came into my headphones. Maybe it’s worth trying to listen to how alive rock is in Riga?
