Colombian and Spanish police have arrested leading drug criminal Julio Andrés Murillo Figueroa. According to the police, ‘El Zar’ (the Tsar), as he is known, was an organizer and key figure in the smuggling of drugs from Colombia to Europe.
Officers arrested him at his villa near the Colombian town of Medellín. The arrest followed a joint investigation that lasted two years.
Police say El Zar, who also goes by H1, is a top executive of the Medellín cartel and worked with a “historic leader” of the cartel in the 1980s and 1990s. Another police source confirms that this refers to the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar.
According to the police, the criminal organization led by Murillo Figueroa has ensured that enormous quantities of drugs have been shipped to Europe. These ended up with, among others, Jonas Sture Falk (the ‘Swedish Pablo Escobar’), mafia organization ‘ndrangheta in Italy and in the Dutch drug world.
