Transfer-free top scorer finishes fourth in Ballon d’Or election

AMSTERDAM – Vivianne Miedema was allowed to skip the exhibition game of the Orange squad on Monday, in which a B-team was drawn 0-0 against Japan, in order to take a break. Nevertheless, the goal thief was in the spotlight. She was voted World Football Player of the Year by the BBC and finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or pageant. As expected, that award was reserved for a player (Alèxia Putellas) of Champions League winner FC Barcelona. Lieke Martens finished fifth, right behind Miedema, for whom the top clubs are currently lining up.
