The league leaders looked bored and uninterested at the start of the match against the Wizards, bottom runner-up in the Eastern Conference (9-42).
He was unable to contain the Wizards on the counterattack, conceding 71 points in the first half when they trailed by seven points.
But it outperformed its guest 36-16 in the third quarter, bringing its lead to 15 points, and was able to contain Washington’s comeback, decisively winning the game 133-129.
Its star, Jason Tatum, was the best scorer with 35 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists, while Latvian giant Kristaps Porzingis added 34 points and 11 rebounds against his former team.
Porzingis told NBC Sports in Boston that the first half “wasn’t that bad” but “in the second half we realized we had to stop their counterattacks.”
He continued, “In the second half, we strengthened our engines.”
On the other hand, Tatum considered that the win was not the most beautiful, but he expressed his satisfaction in achieving the 40th win this season (compared to 12 losses). “We did a lot of good things there… but a win is a win, and we will accept it.”
