Top Astronomical Phenomena of 2023: Solar Eclipse, Uranus Rings, and More

Astronomy was certainly one of the stars of 2023. The year had many phenomena that generated beautiful images, such as the solar eclipse, the fragments of Comet Hally and the alignment between the planets Saturn, Mars, Venus and Jupiter.

    Solar or Annular Eclipse

In October, a partial eclipse of the Sun can be partially seen in Rio Grande do Sul. The ring of fire phenomenon has been observed in different ways around the world. Total or not, the images are stunning.

    Uranus Rings

In December this year, NASA’s James Webb Telescope released beautiful images of the curious rings of Uranus, a planet not so well known for this feature. There are 13 rings, with different characteristics and names.

Alignment between Saturn, Mars, Venus and Jupiter

The four planets entered an incredible alignment in April and the result were breathtaking images, recorded in Taquara, by the Heller & Jung Space Observatory.

    Auroras Corona

One of the strongest solar storms in recent times has caused stunning corona auroras. The images, recorded in Alaska and New Zealand, showing the colors that mix in the sky, as in a choreographed dance, speak for themselves.

    Snow globe-like galaxy

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, together with the European Space Agency (ESA), recorded an almost Christmas-like galaxy: UGC 8091, which looks like a snow globe.
