Selular.ID – Market research institute Canalys released a full report on global smartphone shipments Q1 2022 and the figures show Samsung is once again standing at the pinnacle of glory.
The South Korean conglomerate managed 73.7 million shipments during the January – March period and secured a 24% share of the global smartphone market.
A total of 311.2 million smartphones were shipped for the period which is 11% lower than the same time last year.

Apple came in second with 56.5 million shipments with an 18% market share while also boasting the only top five company annual growth of 8%.
Xiaomi (39.2 million), Oppo (29 million) and vivo (25.1 million) are the other top five companies in terms of shipments.
The Chinese market experienced a significant downturn during the period with Xiaomi, Oppo, and vivo all losing more than 20% of their shipment figures compared to the same time last year.

Component shortages, ongoing COVID lockdowns, and rising inflation have all been linked to poor demand.
Honor was the only brand that seemed to be doing well during the period and claimed first place in terms of shipments with 15 million units sold.
The situation in Africa and the Middle East is not much better with Xiaomi shipments in both regions dropping by 30%.
North America was the only region that saw growth over the last quarter with Apple’s iPhone 13 series and Samsung Galaxy S22 trio leading the way.

Looking ahead, analysts expect improvements in the supply chain and a rebound in smartphone demand ahead of the second half of the year.
