Top 5 Smartphone Manufacturers in Q2 2023: Surprising Rankings Revealed by Canalys

In the last quarter, 10 percent fewer phones were sold than last year
The Vivo brand dropped out of the list of the largest manufacturers
It was replaced by an unknown Chinese company here

The analyst company Canalys decided not to wait for Apple to publish financial results for the last quarter and has already published estimates of smartphone shipments to the global market between April and June this year. The analysis brings one big surprise in the ranking of the largest manufacturers.

An unknown brand in our country made it to the TOP 5

According to Canalys, the smartphone market has fallen for the sixth time in a row, with manufacturers delivering 258.2 million phones to stores in the last quarter, which is 10 percent less year-on-year. All brands from the TOP 5 list reportedly experienced a decrease in sales, the company Vivo, which dropped out of it completely, suffered the most. It was replaced here by the unknown Chinese company Transsion, whose phones flood mainly developing markets – the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. In the Czech market, we meet its phones under the brands Infinix and Tecno.

According to Canalys, the smartphone market has fallen for the sixth time in a row

Transsion’s position in the ranking of the largest smartphone manufacturers is somewhat misleading – with the same logic, the Canalys agency could include the BBK Electronics conglomerate in the statistics, under which Oppo, Vivo, Realme or OnePlus smartphones are produced. It is quite possible that the sum of their shares would be enough for the first place. But according to the table, it belongs to Samsung, despite a 14% drop in deliveries.

iPhone shipments also reportedly fell by 13 percent, yet Apple retained second place. It is followed by the Chinese brands Xiaomi and Oppo, but they also experienced a decline.

Year-on-year change
Samsung 53 21% 61.8 21% -14% Apple 43 17% 49.5 17% -13% Xiaomi 33.2 13% 39.6 14% -16% OPPO 25.2 10% 27.3 10% – 8% Transsion 22.7 9% 18.5 6% 22% Others 81.1 31% 90.7 32% -11% Total 258.2 100% 287.4 100% -10%

Canalys expects the smartphone market to rebound from the bottom in the second half of this year, although we should still expect a slight drop in the total for the whole year. It should bring increased deliveries only next year.
