Royal sea bream under close surveillance
#SEVEN – Since 2019, Ifremer has launched a study, Connect-Med, in Sète, on the movement of four coastal species: wolf, mullet, saupe and gilthead sea bream. Concerning the sea bream, scientists noticed that it was subject to significant fishing pressure when it left the Thau lagoon for the Mediterranean Sea. Does this fishing pressure threaten the resource? “Today, we are unable to say whether the sea bream stock is doing well or not. We do not have sufficiently detailed and high-quality fishing statistics,” explains Jérémy Bourgea, researcher at Ifremer. The Connect-Med project, which extends across the entire Gulf of Lion, dotted with numerous lagoons, should help scientists understand the behavior of sea bream. Because they are present in the summer to reproduce in the lagoons, they come out en masse from October and are therefore very vulnerable at that time. But global warming could change the situation and delay this mass release.

Lagrasse, big winner of the heritage lottery
#HEARING – Lagrasse Abbey, in Aude, is the symbol of the heritage lottery in the region. In fact, the site benefited in 2020 from no less than 600,000 euros. Chosen as an emblematic place in the Occitanie region, the monastery, whose origin of certain buildings dates back before the end of the 8th century, is to benefit from 10 million euros of work over ten years. For now, the restoration of the bell tower is a success, now time for the restoration of the south and north transepts which are “in a state of health emergency”. Workers are already hard at work on the south transept which has been in ruins since the Revolution. The task promises to be arduous.
