Chronicles of the Hudson Valley with Andrew Moore
The Yancey Richardson gallery welcomes until January 21, 2024, “ Whiskey Point and Other Tales “. Through a series of large format photographs, Moore invites viewers on a visual journey: each image tells a story, mixing past and present, ruin and rebirth.
His works are infused with vibrant color nuances and fascinating details. Each of the works depicts the Hudson Valley as a landscape where nature and remains coexist in a certain melancholic harmony. This exhibition invites us to reflect on the transformation of landscapes and their memory. Moore, with his singular artistic eye, captures the essence of places steeped in history, far away, but familiar to New Yorkers.
An-My Lê, between Mekong and Mississippi
A visit to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is essential before August 6, 2024. The world-famous institution is offering a fascinating exhibition by the artist An-My Lê, entitled “ Between two rivers/Giữa hai giòng sông/Between two rivers“. This exhibition offers an immersion into the world of An-My Lê, a Vietnamese and American photographer. His work explores the complexity of landscapes and people marked by war.
Did you know ? An-My Lê, between Vietnam and the United States
Lê was born in Vietnam in 1960. In 1975, she moved to the United States as a political refugee following the fall of Saigon. Her dual perspective is therefore that of the two mythical rivers: through her photos, she links the tumultuous waters of the Mekong to those of the Mississippi.
Lê, known for her ability to capture the disturbing beauty of conflict and post-conflict scenes, presents here a series of large-scale photographs. Far from being just photojournalism, each photo actually makes us think about the themes of identity, memory, displacement, and diaspora. His images, both harrowing in violence and full of depth, offer an original perspective on how environments and humans are shaped by the history of conflict.
Points to remember:
- The International Center of Photography is hosting two fascinating exhibitions simultaneously: Play the part et Immersion.
