Top 5 Features Discontinued in Windows 11 – What You Need to Know in 2023

Amman – The year 2023, which we are preparing to bid farewell to today, witnessed the discontinuation of 5 features that were described as major features in its most famous operating system, “Windows 11.”

Microsoft discontinued the five technologies, as part of the company’s campaign to introduce “new features” supported by artificial intelligence in Windows 11.
According to “The Indian Express”, the most prominent features missing from “Windows 11” are:

1- WordPad
It first appeared in 1995 with the Windows 95 operating system, and is a rich text editor that has received many updates in the past few decades, but the last update it received was in Windows 8, and Microsoft has ignored it since then.
Earlier this year in September, Microsoft announced that no upcoming update would be released, that it would be removed in a future version of Windows, and that users would have to move to Word for rich text documents like .rtf and .doc.
Although the company did not share any specific details about when the app will be removed, it will likely be retired sometime in late 2024.

2- Mail and Calendar
Recently, Microsoft has slowly abandoned its mail and calendar applications in favor of the new Outlook application.
Although these apps currently work as intended, they display a pop-up warning asking users to switch to the Outlook client instead.
According to Microsoft, Windows 11 devices that will ship in 2024 will come with the new Outlook app for Windows as the default mail app, and those who insist on using the Mail and Calendar app will have to download it from the Microsoft Store. But it may officially end in 2024.

3- Windows Tips
The Windows Tips app was the place many went to check out new Windows features, however, last month the tech giant announced that the Tips app would be removed in a future version of Windows 11.
Although the app was never popular in the first place, it served as an easy way to learn about the latest Windows features.
Microsoft says that it will be replaced by the “Get Help” application, which allows you to quickly search for the information you are looking for, and it also has the option to contact a support representative if you encounter a barrier.

4- Windows Speech Recognition
The “Windows Speech Recognition” application appeared for the first time in 2006, when Microsoft introduced the “Windows Vista” operating system, but currently this service is no longer available, and will soon be replaced by the “Voice Access” feature that is already available on the “Windows 11” operating system. Which is considered more accurate according to the company.

5-Cortana
Earlier this year in June, Microsoft announced that it would get rid of its Halo-inspired Cortana voice assistant, which it first launched in 2014, with the Windows 8.1 operating system.
