Top 5 best anime about sports. Football, boxing, basketball and even ping pong – Kik

If you didn’t know what to watch.

Sports and anime are almost always a winning duo. The genre has always been famous for its excellent transmission of the spirit of competition, so film adaptations of manga about a variety of sports often became super popular.

Anime has been made about almost everything – football, basketball, baseball, and even sports such as ping-pong and bowling. Today we are looking at five TV series that are considered the best in their genre.

5. Kuroko’s Basketball / Kuroko no Basuke

A classic film adaptation of a very successful basketball manga, which many already rank higher than the legendary Slam Dunk. The premise is simple: in one school there was a very strong team, which was called the “generation of miracles.” The five players were universally recognized geniuses, but they all recognized the mysterious sixth player as the best. After graduating from high school, all the stars went to different educational institutions.

That same sixth player is Tetsuya Kuroko, who is the main character. He decides to join the basketball team at his new school, which has only been in existence for two years. Kuroko and company participate in various competitions and set a goal to win the championship, but they will have to fight with the best teams of other schools, which the rest of the “Generation of Miracles” players have gone to.

4. First step / Hajime no Ippo

The series is based on one of the best-selling manga of all time. By the way, the manga has been published since 1989 and already has 141 volumes. And it’s not finished yet!

As you can guess from the poster, this is an anime about boxing. The main character, Makunouchi Ippo, after an unpleasant encounter with hooligans, meets a professional boxer and begins his journey in this sport. In total, three seasons and two animated films have been released – you can watch for a long time.

3. Ping-Pong / Ping-Pong: The Animation

A very unusual choice of sport for anime (or any other genre for that matter). In fact, table tennis itself plays more of a background role here, a setting in which the main characters find themselves. By the way, about them: friends Peko and Smile are real ping-pong aces, but they have completely opposite characters.

In general, this anime is not even about sports, but about growing up, relationships with other people and stuff like that. At some point, for example, Peko loses to a player from China – he cannot come to terms with this and quits training altogether. Smile, accordingly, will have to help his friend cope with this problem. Although he also has his own. But let’s not spoil it.

2. Blue Prison: Blue Lock / Blue Lock

A very unusual series about… football. To some extent, this is an anime about the path of a young athlete to glory, but the setting here is not at all what you would expect from an ordinary sports drama. The situation is like this: the Japanese Football Association sets a goal to win the World Cup, for which it hires coach Jinpachi Ego. He believes that the Japanese do not have a top striker, and arranges a tough selection process in order to find that very diamond for the senior team.

Only the selection takes place in a non-standard format: 300 young football players from all over the country are sent to prison (!) Blue Lock. In the end, only one will be chosen – those who fail will never be able to get a call to the national team again. The main character is a schoolboy, Eichi Isagi, who decided to try his hand at it.

1. Volleyball!! /Haikyu!!

An adaptation of one of the most successful sports mangas. The main character is schoolboy See Hinata, who became interested in volleyball after watching one of the matches on TV. As a result, he organized a club at school and was even able to assemble a team and go to the tournament. His team lost at the tournament – the famous volleyball player Tobio Kageyama played for the opponents. Hinata promised himself to surpass him no matter what.

Both manga and anime are distinguished by excellent character development – not only the main character, but also secondary characters go through their own arcs. What can I say, compilations of the “top 10” most epic anime moments are still published on the Internet. A must watch for all anime lovers and volleyball fans.
