Mountains, snow and spring sun: many travelers head to the mountains at Easter. These three goals are guaranteed to be worth it.
The Easter holidays are just around the corner and in terms of the calendar, the 2024 festival is earlier than it has been for a long time. Many people are now heading to the mountains for one last ski holiday. The ski season lasts until mid-April in many places. Anyone who prefers hiking, biking or golf will also get their money’s worth. It can already be warm like spring in the valleys. These three destinations offer the best conditions for a successful Easter holiday.
Golf and skiing in one day in the Zillertal
In the Zillertal in Austria, for example, both skiing and golfing are possible. The Hochzillertal offers guaranteed snow and a fantastic mountain backdrop. Until mid-April you can conquer the kilometers of slopes at an altitude of 2,500 meters and enjoy the view of the Zillertal Alps. From mid-March, the Zillertal-Uderns Golf Club invites you to play golf with 18 varied holes in front of a beautiful, still white mountain backdrop.
The Sportresidenz Zillertal is a perfect starting point for a combined skiing and golf holiday. Located in the middle of the Zillertal ski areas and directly on the golf course, short distances and comfort are impressive. The house also offers wellness and spa treatments, an infinity pool with mountain views and the award-winning restaurant. The Sportresidenz’s free private shuttle takes holidaymakers directly to the nearby ski areas of Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach (open until April 13, 2024) and Spieljoch in Fügen (open until April 2, 2024).
Summiteers in the Ridnaun Valley
The South Tyrolean Alpine landscape around Sterzing, right on the Austrian-Italian border after the Brenner Pass, offers the perfect experience for every hiker. The possibilities are almost endless, from high-altitude hikes to numerous peaks with panoramic views to climbing tours, even with the family. Circular hikes to idyllic lakes or waterfalls followed by a stop at the Alpine pastures are the perfect place to relax and enjoy. And if the weather isn’t perfect, it’s worth taking a trip to the Ridnaun mining world, one of the highest mines in Europe, where silver, lead and zinc were mined for over 800 years. Mining only stopped in the 1980s, so the mining complex is still completely intact.
The ideal starting point for hikes and discovery tours is the Gassenhof adventure resort in Ratschings in the Ridnaun Valley. The sports, hiking and pleasure hotel is located at an altitude of 1,300 meters and offers an unobstructed view of the mountains. Winter hiking and cross-country skiing in the region are just as possible as e-bike tours, rafting, paragliding or canyoning. The highlight for bikers: accompanied Alpine crossings along the entire route. After a sporty day, the wellness area with infinity pool, relaxation rooms and the highlight, the schnapps distiller sauna, invites you to relax. In the evening, connoisseurs can taste home-brewed beer or specially distilled Gratznbrand drops in the fireplace lounge. The Vollger family, especially Manfred and Stefan, are the figureheads of the resort and invite you not only to hikes to the in-house alpine pasture but also to the schnapps distillery or the wine cellar.
Sport and culture in the Allgäu
Oberstdorf im Allgäu is not only the southernmost municipality in Germany, but also a popular spa and winter sports resort. Holidaymakers can visit the Orlen Arena Oberstdorf Allgäu and the Heini-Klopfer ski jump or get active themselves at the Nordic Center Oberstdorf. In Oberstdorf, hikers can look forward to a 200 kilometer long network of paths at three altitudes. From a leisurely walk to a challenging climbing tour, there is something for every taste. Modern mountain railways take hikers comfortably to the Nebelhorn, the Söllereck and the Fellhorn, from where there are breathtaking views of the Allgäu Alps.
The famous fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are just an hour away from Oberstdorf. There are also castles, churches and Lake Forggensee near Füssen to see. The four-star Hotel Garni Schellenberg in Oberstdorf is ideal for families. 50 sqm family suites with connecting doors, baby beds and baby baths, as well as high chairs and kettles in the room offer comfortable conditions for your holiday. A garden with a playground for the children to hunt for Easter eggs and a wellness area with a pool, sauna and fitness room for adults make the holiday perfect.
