A fog still shrouds the 2024 video game release calendar: many do not yet have precise dates, with the exception of those which fall between January and February. This contrasts resolutely with the busy schedule of the previous year, where major productions were easily anticipated,Hogwarts Legacyin February, at Starfieldin September.

“The Plucky Squire”: diving into a storybook
Back to childhood. The Plucky Squire propels us into an adorable fairy tale with cute and colorful characters. The naivety of the universe is, however, only a facade. The game takes us into a conceptual experience in which our hero can, at any time, modify the pages of the children’s book of which he is the hero, or even leave it to explore its owner’s room.
Available in 2024 on PC and consoles.
“Star Wars Outlaws”: heading to a distant galaxy
Last year, the first open-world transposition of the Harry Potter universe catapulted Hogwarts Legacy at the top of sales. It is a safe bet that the same formula applied to Star Wars by Ubisoft will generate similar enthusiasm, with its game whose story is set between the films The Empire Strikes Back et Return of the Jedi. Headlining: the outlaw Kay Vess, created for the needs of the game, and her adorable companion, Nix.
Available in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
“Ultros”: crossing the doors of perception
Tested at Gamescom in Cologne, Ultros was a treat for our eyes, our ears and our fingers on the controller. The designer El Huervo and the composer Ratvader (two Swedes) inject psychedelic ideas into the formula of the non-linear exploration game in two dimensions (in the manner of Metroid et Castlevania). Mysterious mazes, mutated fauna and alien gardening accompany the fights which trigger neon-colored tornadoes.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth”: rediscover a monument
Cloud, Sephiroth and others are back for the second chapter of the high-end remake of Final Fantasy VIIafter the – very successful – one of 2020. With its majestic landscapes, its in-depth intrigues and Dantesque fights, this reinterpretation of a cult title from the 1990s is the major PlayStation exclusive of the beginning of the year, while awaiting the release of Rise of the Roninfrom Team Ninja, in March, and news from Death Stranding 2.
