Top 2000 officially kicked off by radio DJ Jeroen van Inkel | show

The Top 2000 officially started in the night from Friday to Saturday. It was up to radio DJ Jeroen van Inkel to kick off ‘the list of lists’ at 00.00. That happened with the number 2000 of the list, Promises Of No Man’s Land by the Dutch artist Blaudzun, which is on the hit list for the first time. Up to and including New Year’s Eve, the songs are played 24 hours a day in a row at NPO Radio 2.

Bart Arens’ opening show was played prior to the first record. The DJ provides a ‘mash-up’ of big hits from the list every year.

After the newcomer of Blaudzun, a number of well-known songs follow, which have dropped considerably compared to last year: Kissing A Fool by George Michael (down 146 places), I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles (318 places), Anarchy In The UK by Sex Pistols (down 202 places) and Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream (174 places down).

Top 10

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody will be the last to be played and usher in the year 2022. That song was in second place last year, but now heads the Top 2000 list for the eighteenth time. The song Roller Coaster by Danny Vera, last year’s number 1, comes in second this time. The favorite song of the deceased crime journalist Peter R. de Vries, A Whiter Shade Of Pale by Procol Harum, rises from number 153 to 3.

Furthermore, the top 10 successively consists of Hotel California by Eagles, Piano Man by Billy Joel, Radar Love by Golden Earring, Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, Black by Pearl Jam and Evening by Boudewijn de Groot. The song Radar Love is new in the top 10 and the first song from Golden Earring, which has announced that it will stop this year due to George Kooymans’ illness, which is in the top 10. Nothing Else Matters is also new in the top 10.

Queen can be heard most often on the channel, because the band is on the list no fewer than 35 times. Then follow The Beatles with 31 songs and ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and The Rolling Stones with 23 songs. Just like last year, the Top 2000 Café in Hilversum is not full of the public due to the corona measures, but instead with television screens.
