NPO Radio 2 relaunched the Top 2000. Once again, radio DJ Bart Arens kicked off the midnight run with a special mix featuring songs from the public radio station’s year-end list.
The NPO Radio 2 presenter did it this time from the center of the Sound & Vision pond in Hilversum, where a special stage had been set up for him and his grand piano. In the building’s pond, flamethrowers, light shows and fountains were placed specifically for the show. At the end of the opening, the fireworks also started from the roof. It was the third time Arens had opened the list with a mix he had put together.

After the opening DJ Jeroen van Inkel started the first song. In 2000 this year was the driving license of Olivia Rodrigo. As usual, the broadcast comes from the Top 2000 cafe located in the Sound & Vision building. For the first time since the corona crisis, the public can visit the café again to watch the broadcast of the Top 2000. Last year this was only possible virtually through digital composition. In addition to the physical visit to the bar, this option is also possible this year.
24th edition
It is the 24th time that Radio 2 Onlus has closed the year with the Top 2000. Until the new year, it is possible to listen to the songs that the station’s listeners voted for at the beginning of this month. Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody is back at 1, and will therefore play in the last minutes of 2022.
The list was originally conceived to enter the new millennium in 1999 with the two thousand best songs ever made. Due to its success, the list later returned and has since become a channel tradition.
