Top 2 Options for Avoiding Legionella – Instantaneous Water Heaters and Drinking Water Stations

December 26, 2023 11:15 p.m

Hello Andreas, some other options for avoiding legionella:

1. Instantaneous water heater. Sounds paradoxical, but especially in summer with large PV there are hardly any additional costs and hot water pipes don’t even have to be installed. Legionella cannot develop because fresh water is always brought to the right temperature. And the things per tap are usually cheaper than BWWP.

2. Drinking water station on the heating storage tank: these stations contain plate heat exchangers with a high hydraulic length and enable cold drinking water to be brought to shower temperature from around 45 degrees heating storage tank temperature. However, a 100l water boiler on an oil burner is not enough, as you need more heating water than you can use to heat hot water from cold water, for example 500l would be advisable, but an LWWP can do that well. Nice side effect: Limescale is avoided because only water between 13 and 38 degrees is heated. The heating water is usually already descaled.
