Toulouse won 45-23 against Bordeaux-Bègles after a spectacular match, on the 12th day of Top 14, and regained second place at Racing 92.
Racing 92 will only remain second in the Top 14 for two hours … Toulouse snatched second place from the Ile-de-France by winning widely against Bordeaux-Bègles (45-23), for a fourth home victory in four games in this Boxing Day 2020. The first half was unbridled, with two tries scored on each side. It was Yoann Huget who scored the first, in the 7th minute, after a collective action led by Romain Ntamack, Antoine Dupont and Rory Arnold (10-0). Thomas Ramos and Matthieu Jalibert then answered each other at the foot (16-3), before Yoram Moefana scored the first Girondin try, in the 19th, following a framing-overflow from Santiago Cordero (16-10). In a strong moment, the UBB drove the point home by Thierry Paiva, after a work of forwards near the line (19-17). But just before the siren, Selevasio Tolofua gave the Toulouse air some fresh air, scoring behind the scrum (26-17, mt).
Médard scores the bonus try
“We are playing a gala match, with missed tackles and fallen balls”, regretted Ugo Mola at the start of the second period. His men then concentrated and largely dominated this second half, scoring three tries while UBB only scored thanks to two penalties from Jalibert. Antoine Dupont, first of all, scored a magnificent 50-meter try (33-23, 49th). Then Mathis Lebel hit the nail on the head twenty minutes later, left side, after a last pass from Sofiane Guitoune (40-23). Stade Toulousain then pushed for the last ten minutes to get the offensive bonus, and succeeded just after the siren, thanks to Maxime Médard, author of the 85th try of his career in Top 14! A test which allows Toulouse to take five points and return to one point behind the leader of La Rochelle. Bordeaux-Bègles, for its part, is eighth, with one more match to play compared to the first two.
