Top 14 – Christophe Urios (Union Bordeaux-Bègles) removed from office with immediate effect!

Christophe Urios has been sacked as Bordeaux-Bègles manager, according to L’Équipe. Laurent Marti has therefore made the decision to part ways with his manager in charge since summer 2019. Yannick Bru, former Bayonne manager, is the favorite to succeed Christophe Urios.

The time bomb has finally exploded. Christophe Urios was relieved of his duties on Tuesday morning, L’Équipe reported. A time bomb because the Sud-Ouest had already revealed last week that a departure of the Bordeaux coach before the end of the season was not excluded. Laurent Marti, the president of the UBB, has therefore decided to close the Urios era, which began in the summer of 2019, with the main feats of arms, two qualifications for the semi-finals of the Top 14 (2021 and 2022). Arrived from Castres, Urios quickly made the Bordeaux team a winning machine during the 2019-2020 season, which sadly ended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The following season UBB finally obtained their ticket to the finals, with a fourth-place finish at the end of the season and a semi-final defeat by Toulouse.

In the ascendant phase, Bordeaux-Bègles finally stagnated at this level of the competition last season, eliminated by the future champion of Montpellier, in a tense context, marked by the declarations of Urios against Matthieu Jalibert and Cameron Woki, authors of an average final season. The latter will also start with a bang from the Gironde for Racing 92. Eleventh in the standings, and undermined by a last bad performance on the Pau lawn (33-7 defeat), UBB started the season under the expectations of its president . Just enough to part with the former manager Castres.
