Top 10 Tourist Attractions That Will Be Closed in 2024

Several tourist attractions in the world cannot be visited in 2024. Starting from being renovated until they are destroyed and cannot be visited anymore. Reporting from CNN, Sunday (31/12/2023) the following are places that can no longer be visited in 2024, either because they are permanently or temporarily closed.

1. Pompidou Center, Paris

The Center Pompidou, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, is an architectural wonder of the 20th century, recognized by its exterior escalators and enormous colored pipes. It is home to the National Museum of Modern Art and is internationally renowned for its collection of 20th and 21st century art.

‘Our Lady of the Pipes’ will be closed until 2030. Meanwhile, the Pompidou’s sister museum in Brussels is now under construction, and is expected to open in 2025.

2. Splash Mountain, Orlando, Florida dan Anaheim, California

One of Disney’s most famous attractions is holding its final ride in 2023: Splash Mountain. The ride has long been criticized for its glorified depictions of slavery. Splash Mountains at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida will reopen in revamped form as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, inspired by the film The Princess and the Frog.

3. Or, Kompenhagen

Noma, the Copenhagen restaurant that popularized New Nordic cuisine, will serve its last customers in 2024. Due in 2025, Noma will reopen as a kitchen for the work of food innovation and the development of new flavors.

4. Phantom of the Opera, New York City

The iconic musical Phantom of the Opera, which has run for 35 years with 14,000 performances, will be discontinued. The musical will make its final appearance on a New York City stage in 2023.

The show was discontinued and became Broadway’s longest-running show.

5. Pergamonmuseum, Berlin

The Pergamonmuseum is part of Berlin’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Museum Island complex. The museum is home to the famous Ishtar Gate.

The museum is closed until 2027 as part of an upgrade project, one that creates a new central pedestrian zone, expands exhibition space, and more.

6. Elephant Trunk Rock, Taiwan

This rock, which resembles an elephant’s trunk, and has become an iconic photo spot in Taiwan, collapsed on December 15 2023. Gone is one of the attractions on this Taiwanese beach.

The location on the island’s northeastern coast has long been threatened by erosion and has been blocked from public access since 2010.

7. Park Hyatt, Tokyo

Known as the first Western-style luxury hotel in Japan’s capital when it opened in 1994, the Park Hyatt will close in May 2024 to undergo renovations.

8. Notre Dame, Paris

In 2019, Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire. A steady stream of donations is pouring in to restore this popular icon.

Notre Dame Paris is scheduled to reopen in December 2024.

9. Kastil Smithsonian, Washington, DC

The museum complex’s main building, often called the Smithsonian Castle, closed in February 2023 and will be closed for five years to complete repairs and upgrades to the structure.

10. Leonardo Da Vinci Vineyard, Milan

It’s been a tourist destination for half a century, but a billionaire buyer has taken the remains of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Italian vineyard into private ownership.

French billionaire Bernard Arnault, CEO of luxury conglomerate LVMH, bought the Milan property in December 2022 and has not made any statement about when or if tourists will be able to visit it again.
