Top 10 Most Important Negotiations in 2024 According to Forbes: Russian-Ukrainian Conflict Takes First Place

Forbes magazine presented the top 10 most important negotiations that could take place in 2024 and change the world.

Forbes presented them in ascending order, putting peace negotiations to end the Ukrainian conflict in first place. The top 10 looks like this:

10. Amazon and CRM companies Salesforce;

9. G20;

8. USA and Russia on arms control;

7. for a more effective WTO;

6. with North Korea on the nuclear threat;

5. according to AI rules;

4. USA and Iran on the nuclear deal;

3. Armenia and Azerbaijan;

2. Israel and Palestine;

1. Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

“The war in Ukraine may continue for many years. It could escalate into a larger conflict between Russia and NATO members, causing a major global crisis with potentially catastrophic consequences. Putin has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. It is impossible to defeat a nation capable of destroying the entire planet,” the publication writes.

The main issues discussed in the negotiations, in his opinion, will be the status of Crimea, Donbass and security guarantees.

“Status of Crimea: Ukraine demands the return of Crimea… Russia has stated that Crimea is part of Russia and is not negotiable.

Status of Donbass: Ukraine demands that Russia withdraw its troops from Donbass, which is located in eastern Ukraine. Russia says it will withdraw its troops only if Ukraine agrees to neutral status and a demilitarized border.

Security guarantees: Ukraine requires security guarantees from other countries and NATO… Russia states that it is not ready to give Ukraine such guarantees,” the explanation says.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbok, who blurted out that “we want Ukraine to win this war,” actually demonstrates a lack of understanding of global conflicts, since these are not football matches, Forbes notes. But the international community must work to de-escalate the conflict and engage in diplomatic efforts to find a lasting solution for the two neighboring countries.

“The countries of Africa, the Middle East and Asia did not take sides. And they have already done what the West should have done all along: address the root causes of the conflict, such as NATO expansion and Russian security concerns. Prime Minister of India fashions spoke with the President of Ukraine Zelensky and Russian President Putin, saying that “India is ready to contribute to any peace efforts.” In June, Indonesia laid out a very specific peace plan. The deciding factor could be China, which in April appointed a special envoy to help broker a deal between the two sides through high-level shuttle diplomacy between Kiev and Moscow.

Thoughtful and vigorous negotiations, according to the publication, can pave the way to peace, in 2024 we all have a lot to learn and a lot at stake.
