As every year, New York Times reveals its list of the 100 best restaurants in the Big Apple.
In New York City there are around 25 thousand restaurants and, among these, the recognized high-level ones are several whose offerings highlight Ibero-American gastronomy.
The best rated is La Piraña Lechonera, in sixth place on the entire list. This one, “preserves the old flavors of Puerto Rico.” It is a trailer located in the South Bronx that is only open on Saturdays and Sundays and offers the “experience of eating roast pork in a lechonera.”
Estela, a Uruguayan restaurant with Ignacio Mattos at the head of the kitchens, rose to eleventh position on the list of 100. In addition to its inclusion in the Michelin guide, the restaurant attracts audiences due to the presence of famous personalities such as Obama. It is located in Soho and its system of tapas or small plates is described as modern American cuisine.
In position 21, an authentic benchmark of Spanish cuisine in the heart of New York. Also recognized by the Michelin guide, Casa Mono and Bar Jamón opened its doors in 2003 and has been inspired by Barcelona restaurants for more than two decades, whose menu varies from fresh products acquired in markets and markets.
Ernesto’s is a Basque-inspired tavern that ranks 43rd on the list. Suckling pig and cod pil pil stand out on the menu.
The Peruvian restaurant Contento is in position 56. The location located in East Harlem has been distinguished for its accessibility and has received other recognitions such as Heads of the Table by Bon Appetit.
Next, in place 57, Mercado Little Spain, a Spanish cuisine restaurant that offers an Iberian version of the classic American restaurant. The menu includes dishes such as garlic prawns, chicken croquettes, gazpacho and patatas bravas, as well as regional specialties such as Asturian fabada and Madrid stew.
Birria Landia, a food truck that offers Mexican food, ranks 70th out of the 100 best restaurants in New York.
In the same segment, with the 76th place, the Llama Inn stands out, with Peruvian food, and Mariscos El Submarino, with the 79th. The latter, located in Jackson Heights, specializes in seafood dishes from the west coast of Mexico such as aguachile.
Just before finishing the list of the 100 best restaurants in New York, Caleta 111 appears, announced as the best Peruvian cevicheria in the area.
