Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Signs of recovery in the automotive industry are increasingly visible. During January-August 2023, wholesale car sales or from manufacturers to dealers reached 675,287 units.
There was an increase of 17,056 units or 2.6% compared to the same period in 2022. Throughout January-August 2022, wholesales were at 658,231 units.
In August 2023, wholesales were recorded at 88,876 units, an increase of 8,450 units or 10% from the previous month which recorded 80,426 units.
Toyota was the leader with 30,149 units. In second place was Daihatsu selling 17,481 units and Honda in third place selling 11,778 units.
The percentage increase in retail sales or sales from dealers to end users is even higher. Retail sales for January-August 2023 were recorded at 665,251 units, an increase of 28,311 units or 4.4% compared to the same period in 2022. At that time sales were at 636,940 units.
Retail sales in August 2023 were recorded at 86,361 units, a rapid increase of 10,004 units or 13.1% compared to the previous month at 76,357 units.
