Tooske grew up with two brothers, the oldest of whom had Down’s syndrome. “Jan-Pieter was 5 years old when I was born, Jaap 2.5. It was self-evident to me that Jan-Pieter is the way he is. I didn’t even think it was special that I regulated his bath temperature as a 10-year-old”, said Tooske in an interview with the magazine ‘Lotje & co’. “He introduces himself as my big brother, he really appropriated that. He is of course also a grown man. Sometimes a pity: I made a beautiful Sinterklaas poem, he reads it almost unintelligibly.
